The program of remote psychological counseling of seafarers and their families who have experienced trauma, anxiety, and fear during the war which is continuing.

The work of a seafarer is a complex profession that requires a specific way of life, rejection of their social activities for a certain period, and increased physical and psychological load.

The question arises of the need for not only physical but also psychological recovery by means of a conversation with a psychologist. The importance of working with a psychologist can be compared to a visit to a dentist because the necessity of teeth treatment is the same as important and natural, as well as the hygiene of the soul.

The challenges faced by seafarers:

  • the difficulty of adapting to work in a confined space with the same type of landscape;
  • constant emotional tension from increased responsibility and work-related extreme factors;
  • the violation of sleep and times of activity due to working hours;
  • problems of sensitivity related to unacceptable working conditions (constant noise, natural and artificial light, electromagnetic radiation, and vibrations);
  • forced social isolation connected with a limited circle of communication in the form of a professional team only;
  • memories about the usual way of life and family.

During the war, Ukrainian seafarers faced additional difficulties:

  • the inability to resume their professional activities due to restrictions affecting their financial capacity and feelings of loss of their own professional skills;
  • worrying about their family, due to combat operations and understanding of all risks. As a result, there is an internal contradiction about the desire to be alongside and support their family. And also, the understanding of the need to fulfill their professional obligations under the contract and the importance of financial support during this difficult time. Also, the unstable possibility to receive news about events from the family has an influence.

The most common consequences of the professional activities of seafarers are fatigue, apathy, nervousness, chronic stress, depression, and complete isolation from society.

The seafarer’s family also lives this specific way of life. Their experience can be described as a cycle: parting — adaptation — waiting — meeting — adaptation — ordinary life and parting again.

Seafarers’ wives face household difficulties because the responsibilities of a husband and the upbringing of children are assigned to their shoulders. And the father's presence in the lives of children is fickle, complicating their child-parent relations.

So, we have decided to give you and your families the opportunity to contact a psychologist and discuss all the problems bothering you.

Going to a psychologist's session is normal and cool! After all, this is like a journey, but the research object is yourself.

During the conversation, you get to know all corners of your soul and begin to understand yourself better. To learn how to put in order your forgotten and cluttered corners, a psychologist can offer you effective techniques and practices, depending on the methods of psychological work.

Conversations with a psychologist improve the quality of your life and help you deal with adversity independently and effectively. In the process, you seem to create a guidebook for yourself and make necessary notes and then in a difficult situation, after meetings, you will have a tool for self-help.

The most important thing in life is to understand yourself and your peculiarities, and then the relationships and life in general improve.

You just try, you will like!
